Henry "Bobby" Pearce was the finest rower of his time. His victories in the Olympics of 1928 and 1932 made him the first Australian to win the gold medals at successive Olympics. Edith Robinson was the first Australian woman to compete in womens athletics, there were only four women in the entire Olympic team.
